1. Navajo opening.
2. Pass thumbs under index loops. Pick up far index strings, and return under near index strings.
3. Release index loops.
4. Insert little fingers into lower thumb loop from below, and return with lower far thumb string.
5. Insert indexes from below into thumb loops, and return with far thumb strings (not the palmar strings).
7. Release thumb loops.
8. Pass thumbs under little finger loops, then back toward you and into index loops from below. Pick up far index string by turning thumbs a full twist away from you. Release index loops.
9. Insert thumbs into little finger loops from below, and return with near index strings.
10. Insert indexes from below into thumb loops, and return with far thumb strings (not the palmar strings).
11. Caroline extension.
If steps 7 through 11 are done a second time, the result is the same as Four Shrimps.
This figure is widely known throughout the South Pacific. Steps 7 through 11 can be repeated as many times as desired, until the strings become too tight for further manipulation; each repetition adds two more diamonds. If the figure is then set down, turned over left-to-right, and taken back up, each subsequent repetition takes away two diamonds, until you end up back at the state after step 6, at which point the whole thing can be started over again.
