LLX > Neil Parker > String Figures > Jayne
I worked out the following reconstruction by myself, and then discovered that the figure is found in [Maude 1958] (figure 79, "Na Keketi (Mr. Dragonfly)"), made by a method that differs only trivially.
1 - 8. The same as steps 1 through 8 of Flying Fox: The "Wings".
9. Insert indexes into thumb loops from above, and return with near thumb strings. Release thumb loops.
10. Transfer index loops to thumbs.
11. Insert thumbs into little finger loops from below, and return with near little finger strings.
12. Insert indexes into thumb loops from below, and return with far thumb strings (not the palmar strings).
13. Caroline extension.
Some manual adjustment of the strings is necessary to open out the central shape.
The [Maude 1958] method is the same, except that instead of steps 9 and 10, the thumb loops are lifted off the thumb (one hand at a time, by the fingers of the other hand), turned over away from you, and replaced on the thumb.
