LLX > Neil Parker > String Figures > Jayne
1. Opening A.
2. Hook far little finger string over your big toe.
3. With right thumb and index, reach down behind left far little finger string, and toward you, and grab left near little finger string, close to left little finger. Pull the string away from you and up.
4. Insert right thumb and index toward you through the small loop they are holding, and grab left far index string, near left index. Pull it up through the small loop.
5. Repeat step 4 three times, grabbing and pulling though, in order, left far near index index string, left far thumb string, and left near thumb string. Place loop held by right thumb and index onto left thumb.
6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 on the other hand, pulling up, in order, right far index string, right near little finger string (to the left of the point where right far index string crosses over it), right far thumb string (to the right of the point where right near index string crosses over it), right near index string, and right near thumb string.
7. Insert little fingers from below into big toe loop, and release big toe from its loop.
The odd order in which the strings are pulled through in step 6 ensures that the central strings will not cross each other.
To dissolve the figure without tangles, release upper thumb loops and upper little finger loops.
This is [Davidson 1941]'s figure XXVIII ("Dilly Bag"). Davidson's instructions require two players, and go in the opposite order (thumb to little finger) - I've reversed the order, and rewritten them so they can be done by one player.
