Two Coco-Nuts

These instructions are from [Stanley 1926].

1. Opening A.

2. Pass indexes under little finger loops, and return with both near and far little finger strings.

3. Insert indexes from above into thumb loops, and return with near thumb strings. Release thumb loops.

4. Twist indexes a full twist away from you.

5. Pass thumbs under index loops, and insert into little finger loops from below. Return with near little finger strings.

6. Twist indexes a full twist away from you, passing them down through little-finger-thumb loop, and back up on near side of near thumb strings. Release thumb loops.

7. Insert thumbs into index loops from below (but not into the tiny loops whose near strings go to little fingers), and return with (double) near index strings. Release little finger loops.

8. Insert little fingers into index loops from below. Return with the two far index strings that loop over near thumb strings, passing under the third far index string that goes straight between indexes. Release index loops.

9. Insert indexes into thumb loops from below, and return with far thumb strings (not the palmar strings).

10. Caroline extension.

Stanley describes a continuation of this figure:

11. Release index loops.

12. Insert indexes into little finger loops from above. Return with near little finger strings, by turning indexes toward you and up. Release thumb loops.

13. Seesaw hands to help the strings come untangled. This represents the coconuts being husked. Eventually you end up with two coconut halves.

The figure continues:

14. Pass thumbs under far index string, and with a full turn away from you, pick up near little finger string from above. Release little finger loops.

15. Transfer index loops to little fingers.

16. Insert thumbs from below into little finger loops, and return with near little finger strings.

17. Insert indexes into thumb loops from below, and return with far thumb strings (not the palmar strings).

18. Caroline extension.

This represents coconuts broken into four fragments. The final figure is almost the same as Four Shrimps.
