Eugene, Oregon is a diverse community of approximately 120,000 with an effective population base of around 250,000 in the greater Lane County area.

With a variety of Weather around us, we have a series of climates to visit without going very far: Within a couple hours of Eugene you can find the beautiful Oregon Coast to the West, the Cascade Mountains to the East where you can ski and play or visit Bend and the rugged Volcanic & Cave areas, or Portland to the North. It seems that most of the people here weren't born here, but ended up discovering how beautiful the place is and just couldn't return to where they came from...

It's sometimes been called the city of Twinkle Van Winkle by Jerral because there's often a lot of twinkle, that is: many interesting things going on here for the size of the city. And yet at the same time, Eugene has its share of Van Winkle: there's a lot of people here who are maybe still sleeping through from the 60's and the 70's, hanging out doing their arts & crafts and alternative things! Rather Laid Back, shall we say!?

Whatever the view, it's a nice place to live and work. Would you like to look at some other evidence before you agree? Then by all means, take a look at some other views of the city before you go, as well. You might want to see the official Home Page of the City of Eugene, and maybe a couple newspapers from the area, the "standard," which is called the Eugene Register-Guard and the "alternative paper", called Eugene Weekly. That should give you some diverse opinions and options.

Hurry back!
